Historic Artifact Trail

This year McHenry County Historical Society is celebrating 60 years of collecting, preserving, and sharing its county’s history with the public.

To commemorate this anniversary, our featured exhibit, “60 Years, 60 Objects: Stories from McHenry County,” highlights sixty artifacts from the historical society’s collections.

From June 2 – October 2, 2023, ten of these artifacts will be hosted by businesses throughout McHenry County.

The community is encouraged to travel the Historic Artifact trail by visiting all ten participating businesses to learn about their artifacts.

A Historic Artifact Trail Passport is available at each business to guide participants along their way. Passports are also available at the McHenry County Historical Society’s Museum in Union.

A drawing for a raffle basket will be held for participants who visit all ten locations. The raffle basket will include items from the Historical Society’s Museum store and items donated by participating businesses. Visit the McHenry County Historical Society’s Museum to return your completed Historic Artifact trail Passport by October 6, 2023, and view the remaining 50 objects on display in the “60 Years, 60 Objects: Stories from the McHenry County exhibit.”
